The Concept

Orchard belongs to the generation of Calgary rooms that stopped choosing between beauty and cooking. Chef Jenny Kang — with a résumé through the city’s most serious kitchens and a Korean heritage she cooks from rather than around — frames the menu as Mediterranean classics with Asian flair, a promise the plates keep nightly. Within its first years the restaurant earned a place on Canada’s national best-of lists, and the romance-of-a-European-supper-club brief shapes everything from lighting to pacing.

What to Order

Begin with the salmon crudo lifted by gochujang and roe, or the bison carpaccio with capers and grana padano. The crusted halibut over bok choy with miso cream is the signature main; the Rougie duck breast is its equal for red-meat moods.
